If there’s one thing every dog owner needs, it’s the best biodegradable poop bags! After all, you can’t just walk your dog and leave nature to take its course with the excrement that your dog happens to leave behind along the way.

It’s unsanitary!  Especially if you live in a more built-up area. You need to be able to clean up after your tail-wagging pal and dispose of their business at the nearest bin.

However, most dog poop bags aren’t exactly environmentally friendly. Most of them are made from the same materials used to make other items like bin bags and nappy bags, which let’s be honest are not good for the environment.

It’s all-important that we do our bit for Mother Earth, and what’s a great way that dog owners can help out? Biodegradable poop bags! And if you don’t know where to start, don’t worry – we’ve compiled a list of the best environmentally friendly poop bags on the market.

Earth Rated Compostable Poop Bags are a best seller for a reason – they’re super thick, super tough, and super easy to handle. And, everything about the packaging is made from 100% recycled materials! How cool is that?! And these compostable bags, though biodegradable, aren’t scented.

Though Earth Rated can also cater to those with fine tastes, in that as well as the normal blue unscented bags; you can live a life of luxury with the lilac coloured, lavender-scented bags. How incredibly fancy!

But, those non-compostable bags only meet the Canadian standard on what counts as a biodegradable. Despite being vegetable based, they’re also completely leak proof so you can safely dispose of your puppy’s poop with no worries of any mishaps.

And not only is Earth Rated dedicated to the Three Rs – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – as well as biodegradable products, but they also take the time to donate the poop bags and product not quite fit for sale to local dog shelters!

Whilst the bags are pretty easy to tear away from one another and easy to scoop up poop with, it sometimes is difficult to peel the bag open – most people recommend the old finger lick to open them up.

Pros

  • Biodegrade within 45 days of use.
  • Packaging made from 100% recycled materials.
  • Decent 9” x 13” size.
  • Compostable.
  • Tear and leak proof.
  • Super strong.

Cons

  • Pretty thin.
  • Can be hard to open.
  • Can decompose before even used if left long enough.
  • Only sold in packs of 60 bags.

So these bags are not only eco-friendly but also anti-bacterial. That’s pretty great considering how unsanitary dog poop – and all poop in general – is.

They are also 15 microns thicker than the average biodegradable poop bag so, not only are they more hygienic, but they also provide you with extra protection with the thick anti-leak material. Perfect!

This pack, in particular, provides you with 360 waste bags for your dog poop – that’s roughly 3 months of bags for the average dog! Their packaging is also made from cardboard so completely safe to recycle.

How can we ignore the snazzy design of the bags with the Pet n Pet logo on, which features a little dog! Just because it’s a poop bag, doesn’t mean it can’t be snazzy! Though if you think snazziness comes down to scent, these, unfortunately, are unscented.

This is good news to those who have sensitive noses or allergies though! The bags are also pretty easy to use with the use of a circle to show you the created end of the bag and the open arrow at the top of each bag allows you to have an easier time trying to peel them open.

But, the easy tear edge to the bags means that you don’t have to worry after starting the roll off – the bags easily come away from one another.

Pros

  • Easy Tear-Off.
  • Bulk pack of 360.
  • Leak-proof.
  • Thick material.
  • Anti-bacterial.

Cons

  • Tears easily.
  • Bunched bottom bags – not flat like in photos.
  • Rolls don’t have a hardcore at all.
  • Doesn’t fit most dispensers.
  • Biodegradable through chemicals.

Got a large dog? Are normal sized poop bags just not big enough for your dog’s packages? Well, these extra large poop bags may be just what you need.

So these bags were made with large dogs in mind, but they’re still super thick to ensure there’s no leakages or tears. They’re also pretty good for cat litter too – multifunctional, much?

They are made with EPI plastic, and whilst it’s no vegetable waste, you won’t see these bags still in landfills a year from now like you would with ordinary plastic bags. The packaging is also completely made from 100% recyclable materials. This is a product that has the environment truly in mind.

And if you prefer to be fancy and have scented poop bags – these offer a wonderful ‘powder fresh’ scent that will help mask any unwanted smell that you retrieve from your dog’s behind. But if you prefer unscented for whatever reason, they also offer that too. Having a choice makes life so much easier. But be warned, it can smell pretty strong if you do go for the scented option.

Pros

  • Cute product design.
  • Extra large bags.
  • Bulk packs of 150 or 450 rolls.
  • An option of scented or unscented.
  • Recyclable packaging.
  • Thick and durable material.
  • Multipurpose box – packaging and dispenser.

Cons

  • Hard to open.
  • Not vegetable based – still biodegradable, just through chemicals.
  • Scented bags can be overwhelming.

Gorilla Supply Poop Bags leave absolutely no waste and come with their very own dispenser, which is a huge plus – no one wants to be fiddling about their pockets looking for loose poop bags to use.

Just simply pop one of these bad boys out of the handy dispenser and you’re good to go. And speaking of storage, you can store your spare rolls of 50 poop bags (20 rolls are included in this pack to make up the 1000 bags overall) in the handy cardboard box that they arrive in!

This pack, in particular, will keep you set for months! 1000 bags? You won’t need to worry about running out at all!

Not forgetting to mention that these eco-plastic bags come in green, black, or blue. Perfect if you have any preferences for what colours you like to scoop up poop with.

They are also completely leak-proof, and thicker than your average grocery bag so will hopefully make your cleaning-up experience a tad more pleasant than it would be with a thin and potentially leaky bag!

They also don’t tear easily, which is a huge relief. That being said, these bags are not scented which could be a turn-off for some, but a huge plus for others.

Pros

  • EPI Technology Plastic.
  • 1000 bags.
  • Dispenser Included.
  • Leak and tear-proof.
  • Coreless bags – no waste.
  • Three different colours.

Cons

  • Slightly see-through.
  • Bags can be slightly too short for larger dogs.
  • The dispenser can be awkward to attach to retractable leads.
  • Roll of bags can slip in the dispenser.
  • EPI Technology Plastic – biodegradable, but through chemicals. Vegetable-based products are more environmentally friendly.

These earth-friendly bags are the perfect fit for all bag dispensers, but does that matter when this company even provides its own green bone dispenser for free-bonus!

These environmentally friendly poop bags are made with tough and thick recycled materials meaning that you can be worry-free whilst cleaning up after your dog. They are also completely leak-proof and large enough that you can secure the bag with a tight knot to further prevent any leaks.

These bags were made with sanitary handling in mind. They are super easy to use – the rolls fit easily into the dispenser and tear off easily from one another, they are even easy to open.

They are also easy to flip inside out so you can scoop the poop up with no worries of having your dog’s business all up in your business. The dispenser also easily clips onto most dog leads, making it super easy to carry around and almost impossible to leave behind.

The lack of scent means that these bags are safe to use for those puppies and people that are sensitive to allergies, and to dog owners who may have sensitive noses to what could be interpreted as an aggressive perfumed smell.

Though, if you prefer a scented poop bag, which makes the poop carrying business a tad less traumatic for some people – these are not for you.

Pros

  • Durable.
  • Made from recycled materials.
  • Leak-proof.
  • Easy to tear.
  • Free dispenser.
  • Bulk pack of 360.
  • Safe for puppies with allergies.
  • Room for the knot at top of the used bag.

Cons

  • Not vegetable-based.
  • Not big enough for large dogs.
  • Don’t always contain the smell.

Bottom Line

While all of these biodegradable poop bags are each brilliant in their own way, our clear winner is Pogi’s Poop Bags.

These bags are durable and leak-proof, but also extra-large, so are perfect for bigger dogs and for cleaning up litter trays. You won’t ever have to worry about not having enough room to secure the poop bag with a knot at the opening as there will always be room to spare.

And while these bags are biodegradable through chemical breakdowns, rather than naturally breaking down through decomposing, they still aid in the fight against landfill waste and provide 100% recycling friendly packaging.

It also gives you the option of masking the smell of your dog’s poop with a ‘powder fresh’ scent, whilst also giving you the option to go scentless – having the option is always a huge plus.
