One of the thrills of owning a dog is taking them for a walk. When you take a dog out on a walk, not only are you giving them much needed exercise, but you are creating a deep bond with your beloved pet.

Depending on the size of the dog that you own, a leash and a collar should be your go-to walking equipment. But, if you happen to own a small dog, like a Yorkie, then you need the best Yorkie Harness. Yorkies have thin necks, and if they tend to pull, they could be hurting their delicate tracheas.

Even if your Yorkie isn’t prone to pulling, the pressure of a collar on their neck could still be damaging. In a Yorkie’s case, it is best to walk them with a harness. Harnesses wrap around your Yorkie’s chest so that the pressure is spread evenly on them, not in one centralized area.

You will be able to avoid harming your Yorkie by using a harness and may even have better control over their smaller bodies. Here are a few harnesses that we suggest using.

  • Secure closures
  • Durable D-Ring

Walks should be enjoyed by your dog, not be a hassle to do. A WinderPup Harness is made of lightweight material that is also breathable so that your dog’s skin and fur aren’t irritated while on a walk.

Since this harness is lightweight, it shouldn’t put any extra weight on your small Yorkie. A velcro strap and durable buckle will make sure that the harness won’t be able to slip off of your dog when you are walking them.

A durably stitched D-Ring on the back of the harness gives you a secure place to clip your dog’s leash on so there is no risk of your dog being able to get away from you.

Pros

  • Comes in four different sizes
  • Available in 10 different colors

Cons

  • The sizes tend to run small

Help your Yorkie strut their stuff with more confidence when you walk them with a WinderPup Soft Mesh Harness.

Have fun walking your dog with the Gooby Comfort Harness.

Key Features

  • Ideal for small breed dogs
  • Choke-Free design
  • Made of lightweight yet durable materials

This harness is made of a polyester and mesh blend that will help your dog’s skin and fur breath while on a walk.

The material blend also helps regulate your dog’s body temperature, so they do not overheat while out on a walk. It is also easy to clean this harness since you can pop it into the washer to clean and then let air dry. This harness won’t choke your dog thanks to its design.

It fits comfortably around your dog’s shoulders and neck so, if your dog were to pull, the pressure would be evenly distributed, not centered on one part of your Yorkie’s neck.

Pros

  • Available in four sizes
  • Comes in six colors

Cons

  • Has to be pulled over your dog’s head to be put on

Your dog will be so happy to walk when they wear their Gooby Comfort Harness.

Walk your Yorkie with high safety when you use the Barkbay No Pull Harness.

Key Features

  • Easy to adjust
  • Ventilated
  • Has reflective material

This harness is made of lightweight yet highly durable No-Rip Nylon that will allow your dog’s body to breathe and not overheat when out on a walk. There is also anti-chafe padding under your dog’s arms so that their skin won’t be irritated.

There are two D-Rings, one in the front and one on the back, that you can utilize depending on if your Yorkie is a puller or not. Easy to slide buckles on the straps of the harness can let you fit the harness easily and comfortably on your Yorkie.

And for nighttime walkers, this harness has reflective material sewn directly on it.

Pros

  • Available in four sizes
  • Comes in five different colors

Cons

  • Neck ring might stretch out over time

Your Yorkie will learn that walks can be enjoyable when using the right harness, like the Barkbay No Pull Harness.

Bottom Line

The best Yorkie dog harness will make it easier for you to take your Yorkie on the walks that they love the most. You won’t have to constantly worry if you are hurting your Yorkie’s throat by pulling on them to go along with you or worry about them slipping out of their collar due to pulling.

You do need to be sure that the harness is properly sized to your Yorkie before waking them though. The harness should not be able to stretch out too far when walking your Yorkie, but it should also not be too tight that it is hard for your Yorkie to breathe.

As a rule of thumb, if you can fit two fingers in the strap around your Yorkie’s neck and the strap around their chest, then the harness is fit snug so your Yorkie won’t slip out, or risk choking themselves.

We do hope that one of the harnesses that we have suggested will fit the style you enjoy, and provide comfort on a walk that a Yorkie needs to enjoy their outside time with you.
